Standard 12: Teaching With Technology

             Standard 12 states teacher leaders evaluate and use technology for teaching and learning.   In this day and age, it is very important teachers have a positive relationship with technology as it encompasses many aspects of daily life.   Similarly, o ur students have essentially been raised on technology as well.   Teachers must utilize this highly important learning tool to connect with their students and provide an array of learning opportunities and experiences.   Prior to taking the Teaching with Technology course, I did not use much technology and actively avoided it.   The reason being I felt it was too “clunky” and I am more efficient with my time not using it.   The only technology I would utilize might be a Google Slides presentation or showing a YouTube video to students.  Likewise,  I have disliked most online music teaching tools as the quality of material is usually quite low...

EDTC 6433 Week 1/Module 1 Reflection

Week 1 question: "What avenues of technology (besides Powerpoint can our 8th graders use when presenting their ideas on their final projects in music?"             As described by Bernard R. Robin (2008) in the article “ Digital Storytelling- A Powerful Technology Tool for the 21st Century Classroom”, d igital storytelling “allows computer users to become creative storytellers through the traditional processes of selecting a topic, conducting some research, writing a script, and developing an interesting story” (p. 222).  In my 8 th grade curriculum I see this working well as both a method of instruction and an avenue for my students to use in their final projects.  My cur rent delivery is a lecture style, one that becomes dull after time.  Digital storytelling accomplishes the goal of ISTE 1, allowing a creative method of facilitating learning and providing creative interaction with material.
